Fake Smile?

Fake Smile - JK

I’ve had a fascination with fake smiles for quite a while now, especially the ones that little kids make for pictures, where their smiles are too big for their faces. Anyway, found a link to a test to see if you can spot the fake smile at the BBC website (courtesy of Maureen). While I didn’t do so hot guessing, the site is one of the best things I’ve seen lately…

This is a test shot of a photo series I wanted to do, but never got the inspiration to make it happen fully. Now I don’t have the equipment at my disposal, so, it’s on the backburner.

Homemosexuality needs convession!

Ad on top of ad

It’s a good thing Michelle and I forgot to send the ol’ Beige G3 with her to my parents’. Now I have a scanner again! It’s a piece of royal crap, but I get to scan things like this gem I found on 2005 March 17. Oh look! Money on the ground! Roll over the image to get the gist of the find. Out-f’ing-rageous!

Relational Architecture, c 7 11 23 style

I’ve been interested in the idea of a 3d alternative browser for a while now. And today I found Sitestepper at The Museum of Contemporary Art Digital Gallery. The project is from last June, and I’m not sure if I particularily agree with the manner in which it renders itself, or the static nature of the room’s contents, but it’s interesting nonetheless. I, of course, chose to map my site into the space, with the results above. My favorite part is the bookshelf which acts as a device for hyperlinking. Too bad it couldn’t pull any of the colors from my site for some reason.

Have we really come to this?

So, I was over at the Dell website today looking at low-priced PCs when I noticed a banner ad (for Dell mind you) expand in the middle of the screen. I hit the close button to get rid of it, only to reveal yet another ad (for Dell again) in the layout. Roll over the image above to get the full effect of what I’m talking about. I know ad space can be competitive, but does Dell really need to compete with itself on its own website? Strange but true.

Now it’s time for a wait

Mural Design on Wall

Whew!

After painting all weekend and really driving my anxiety levels through the roof, I finished the preliminary design for the Central Northside mural. This is what it would basically look like on the wall. I’m fairly pleased, though I would like to add a bunch more intricate details to it (awesome grammar). We’ll see.

Joshua and Justin will take delight in the fact that I did this painting in the most difficult way possible. I cut stencils for all the flower patterns, 2-3 colors for each of the 8 patterns. So, basically I drew this all out, then cut it all out, just so I could paint it all out. But it looks the way I want it to, and that’s most important.

So, now… On Friday the 13th there will be an exhibition of all the competing designs at Artists Image Resource from 6-8pm. Then I get to just wait around until the end of next week to find out whether or not I got it. Here’s to the universe coming through for me!

Latest (May) Photo Update

My face blended

Added the latest batch of photos to the Daily Photo Project, which I am now officially calling The Adaption to my Generation. It’s up to date to 2005 May 06.

In other news, working on the preliminary design for the Central Northside mural competition. Exhibition on Friday 2005 May 13, if you’re in the Pittsburgh area. And then it’ll be workaholic days for the installation at Pittsburgh Filmmakers. It’s a good stress.

Why I want to go to Japan

Count 10 Screenshot, Divine Inspiration

Seeing’s as how I have all sorts of free time on my hands, I decided to rip the portion of the Japanese TV show that I was featured on. The show is called Amazing 10 Seconds: Count 10 and, despite my previous thinking, is not a game show of some sorts. I have uploaded a QuickTime for your enjoyment: Count 10 featuring c 7 11 23

Photos are easy, Painting is hard

Big thank you to Dave for allowing me to borrow his digital camera to shoot reference photos of the Northside. Needed to get inspiration and to see the actual wall that I am doing a preliminary mural design for. It’s actually nice because the wall has these windows and wires and whatnot that give some compositional structure to my idea. But painting is HARD. I’m trying to do it in the style of my drawings, but my technical skills with the brush are severely lacking. It needs to be done by the 10th, so, I’ll have images later.
