The head was made from stuffed animals

Let’s see what I can remember from this one…Myself, a lady, and a guy were preparing for a party in this house. It was going to be a huge bash, and we’d be performing a large number where I wore this custom costume while singing in our band. So, people were showing up at the house, looking at art (maybe?) and just having a drink or two and getting loosened up. I was running around like mad, with the costume in hand. I put it in a bedroom or room that people wouldn’t be in and helped out with some party thing. At one point a woman asked me about the costume head and I told her “Yes, it’s mine”, “Yes, I made it myself” and “we’ll be performing shortly”. I think she had a kid with her.

Drawing of the corduroy dress designMuch time passed and I was still running around like mad. There was a full house of people now, and it was evening. We ran up to get the costumes on so we could play our set. But where was the costume?!? I was running around trying to find it. I finally found it in the rafters in one room, and I cursed my mother for “picking up” after me. Our systems of organization did not mix. We had to get ready fast, we were already much too late. I put on this amazing tight-fitting corduroy dress, that had all sorts of different colors quilted together. [it was actually amazing in a folk art sort of way, despite the 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat'-like drawing] The two other people that were with me asked if I had made it, and I told them yes. They thought I looked totally hot in it, and well, I probably did.

Why Italy?

Poster for conferenceVenice, 29 September 2005 to 2 October 2005.

Teach me, a permanent laboratory-observatory on new teaching methods and research on the rapport between students, schools, and teachers, returns this year with Teach me, Stories.

Promoted by the Faculty of Arts & Design of the University Iuav of Venice and by Fabrica, Communication Research Centre of the Benetton Group, supported by Aprilia and Veneto Region. Teach me, Stories will take place in Venice, at the Magazzini Ligabue, from 29 September to 2 October 2005. The event represents the continuation of last year’s successful Teach me. Festival of Italian Graphic Design.

This important event involves the study of new methods, language, content and programmes. Focus is placed on the most experimental and extreme forms of contemporary expression, an essential feature of the Faculty of Arts and Design, of Fabrica, the international laboratory on creativity, as well as of Aprilia, company of Piaggio Group really close to the world of design.

This encounter between university and the Teach me, Stories project is once again a propellant of energy and inspiration for talented students who attend the University.

Teach me, Stories takes place over the course of four days and includes conferences, workshops, shows, screenings and discussions on graphic design, communication, design, fashion and art. This year Teach me is above all dedicated to stories concerned with the object, told through the use of symbols, drawings and writings which express the unexplored, other side of the world of artefacts.

A large festival of images and words which will include the exhibition “Amico Massimo”, a collection of visual letters sent by students and friends in memory of graphic designer Massimo Dolcini. Professionals from interrelated fields have been invited to participate in the festival, including photographers, film directors, writers, screenwriters, and others whose work is distinguished for its particular creativity and originality.

The enthusiasm I express concerning this divine wanderer is where it’s at.

We’re (Cranbrook 2D) currently working on a project loosely based on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Since the text to the book is public domain (thus allowing me to search the text in the computer), I decided to ask all the questions that it contained to AOL’s chat bot, Zola. I’ve had a number of interesting conversations with Zola in the past, and decided to see how she’d answer the questions raised in the classic novel.

Here you are:

JK How I, then a young girl, came to think of, and to dilate upon, so very hideous an idea?

ZolaOnAOL I am not sure if I can quantify the answer. Interesting gossip.

JK Have you thought of a story?

ZolaOnAOL To be honest with you, I’ve been too busy to consider it. What do you think about it?

JK Do you understand this feeling?

ZolaOnAOL Of course I understand it. Do you understand it?

JK What may not be expected in a country of eternal light?

ZolaOnAOL That’s not something I get asked all the time. What if I said it can?

JK And now, dear Margaret, do I not deserve to accomplish some great purpose?

ZolaOnAOL Why now? My brain pattern set does not have a response for that. Send feedback anytime by typing “feedback” followed by your comment or suggestion. How’s work?

JK I do not intend to sail until the month of June; and when shall I return?

ZolaOnAOL Where do you get your ideas?

JK Ah, dear sister, how can I answer this question?

ZolaOnAOL So you understand. Good. I get my ideas from my botmaster.

JK Shall I meet you again, after having traversed immense seas, and returned by the most southern cape of Africa or America?

ZolaOnAOL Not right now, maybe later.

JK Wherefore not?

ZolaOnAOL Then what is it?

I know I did, and remembered it for a bit

What was this one about? Was I in a restaurant. Was I belligerent about something? Or really happy? Was JB there? Crap, I thought there was something really good in this one… Keep it in my head for the day.

Later in the day… I remember that part of it was that JB was working on a project and I thought it was really great. Somehow s/he was abandoning it, and I wanted to do it, but thought it wasn’t right to just take it over. Didn’t want to just steal a killer idea.
