PostBitmapScripter
Typefaces undergo a complex degradation procedure to be displayed as accurately as possible on screen via bitmap font files. Written in Macromedia Director, the PostBitmapScripter (PBS) type generator attempts to work the opposite way by using a simplistic enhancement routine to attempt a recreation of the original typeface from bitmap sources. PBS’s resulting letterforms expose the flawed translation process and celebrate the eccentricity of its limited amplification algorithm.

Just wondering how I can get my hands on this/if it possible to get my hands on this - I love the result.

it’s been a while since i’ve visited your site, and i must say that you never cease to amaze me. recently i’ve been thinking of what new typefaces are going to look like and here is in some way shape or form an answer. i don’t know what to say really. i think you are a step ahead, no a giant bound, ahead of the rest of us, whomever that may be.
Matt: Like many of the projects I work on, this one’s not so much ready for public consumption. There’s no real interface to the Director app (relies on remembering undocumented keystrokes) and it’s not something that just spits out usable fonts. Right now, I get Illustrator paths that I have to finesse a bit to get it to what you see above.
That gets me thinking… if anyone wants to be an intern and help create functional fonts with this, send me an e-mail. I can put you right to work.
Though Matt, if you really want to use the above Illustrator paths for something, let me know what the project is. That goes for anyone.
